During Apprenticeship Week Wales 2026, Portal is marking the success of its first-ever Agored Cymru–accredited Level 4 Diploma in Project Management cohort, through the experiences of three successful learners.

Angharad of Mudiad Meithrin, Robert from Pembrokshire County Council and Sophie from the NHS, highlight the real-world impact of structured, work-based learning across very different sectors. For each learner, the qualification provided an opportunity to formalise existing experience while developing a stronger theoretical understanding of project management.

Sophie, already working as a Project Manager within Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), described how the qualification gave her the language, confidence and alternative approaches needed to enhance her effectiveness and support successful project delivery across her organisation. Since completing the course, she has progressed into a national project and programme management role and is now developing a mentoring programme to support others.

Angharad, Policy and Grants Manager at Mudiad Meithrin, recognised that managing both small and large projects had become essential within her role. The Level 4 qualification enabled her to step back and review her working practices more objectively, improving her approach to planning, timelines and managing complexity. She highlighted how increased planning and structure has paid dividends when implementing new projects.

Robert, now an Electrical Engineer with Pembrokeshire County Council, reflected on how the qualification deepened his understanding of project management and strengthened his confidence. Having previously supported projects within a school environment, he is now actively applying his learning across a range of construction and infrastructure projects, contributing more effectively to project delivery.

Together, their experiences demonstrate how project management skills are highly transferable across sectors. From early years education and public services to construction and health, the qualification has built their confidence, helped them to progress professionally and create impact beyond their individual roles.

Portal’s Level 4 Diploma in Project Management is accredited by Agored Cymru and is designed for individuals aspiring to excel in various project management roles.
