XLence in Teaching and Leadership Framework
We have developed a Framework to support schools in securing good and excellent teaching. Following the publication of the new Professional Standards by Welsh Government, we have developed the resource to provide a complete solution for School Improvement, through monitoring teaching, learning and leadership, tracking performance management and evaluating the impact of CPD and professional learning.
Aligned to the new Teaching and Leadership standards for Education in Wales, the frameworks provide clear guidance for staff on each element of the standards and what it means for their professional practice, whilst aligning with the principles of the Standards by being focused on promoting dialogue through prompts rather than giving descriptors to “tick off”.
It is an online and digital tool, and is supported by paper resources. It is available in Welsh and English and has been developed in partnership with ‘For Schools Education Services’ and a number of Welsh schools.
We worked very closely with EAS to roll out the framework for all schools in their region and a large majority use it. There are approximately 170 schools using our current online resource. GwE also support the use of the Framework in the region.
Schools within ERW and CSC also use the resource but presently they approach us directly rather than it being a strategic whole region approach.
Feedback from schools is very positive and Estyn recently commented on the impact of the use of this system in a report on Caerphilly County Borough Council/Local authority:
“The regional consortium’s school improvement service has provided schools with a comprehensive tool to evaluate and improve the quality of teaching. Schools using the resource are better able to monitor classroom practice and address under performance.”
